US Senators To Cut H-1B Visas By 15,000 From The Existing 85,000 A Year

Immigration News

With the United States presidential election of 2016 scheduled for November 8, (Tuesday), few of the things are heating up in the province as well as the Indian IT service companies like promulgation of the second bill to cut H-1B visas count by 15,000 from the existing 85,000 a year and many others said the concerned sources. As per the new bill, visas are issued only for the highest wage earners at first and then to the others.

Though the proposed H-1B visa program has been put forth to grab the attention of skilled workers from across the globe, this may not help them to show to their people that they have done something.

A month ago, US senators put forth a bill stating that the companies are permitted to employ not more than 50 H-1B visa holders of their staff. But this may create harm or damage too many IT companies, according to National Association of Software and Service Companies Vice President, Shivendra Singh.

As per the new study, it was found that IT companies of India have paid around $22.5 billion in the form of taxes to US Treasury during 2011-13 and supported over 411,000 jobs in the province. Moreover, around 70% of the H-1B visas are given only to the Indian workers in 2014, said the sources. Reportedly, Disney faced a backlash.

And with a strong intention to do support such individuals, a bill sponsored by both Democratic senators and Republican has been introduced. Though this is not going to be an immediate threat, IT industry must wake up and take it more seriously, according to, CEO of Zensar Technologies, Ganesh Natarajan.

Few of the top companies like Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys, HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra declined the comment and had not responded to their request. Information technology industry experts do believe that the new visa proposal will force top companies of India to improve their business model.
