The US Congress’s move to impose fee of USD 4000 on H1 and USD 4500 on L1 Visa categories would impact seriously on Indian IT sector, which get maximum revenue out of US markets. The Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has discussed the issue of hike with US President Obama, but the meet could not impact the hike in House of representatives.
The US House of Representatives have introduced the bill to spend on biometric entry and exit tracking system, and to support the healthcare for 9/11 first responders. This measure would earn over one billion dollars to US treasury for a period of 10 yrs, till the next move by the respective governments.
Some analysts have supported the move by saying that Indian IT companies have huge inflows; fee hike will have minimal effect on the industry. Nasscom Indian body for monitoring IT companies termed the move as discriminatory and against the healthy business environment. Indian companies are providing huge base for local US citizens in employment. According to Nasscom report, out of 4 lakh jobs created by Indian companies’ locals take a maximum share of 3 lakh jobs in it.
Infosys founder Mr. Narayanamurthy has been supportive to the hike stating that “providing value to the customer is paramount. Adding positive point to that the fee hike would give the provision of increased stay term from five years to 10 years”. Taking various things into consideration such as inflation the fee hike will have negligible impact on the IT companies, says analyst.
Though this new hike norms are confined to Indians why much hype is being created says the Industry. Real opinion is yet to arrive in the official meetings of the Assocham with the top officials of IT.
Fee enhancement is not an issue, but making the Visa processing system rigid will not be beneficial in the long run for the IT sector. Adopting delay practices would allow aspirants of H1 visa to change their ways to fulfill their dreams. Options are comprehensive, as many countries like Australia and Canada are in strong need for skilled professionals and luring them with permanent residency, offering huge benefits will also be a big option for the aspirants.
