Victorian ICT Jobs Boost With Opening Of Xero Australia HQ

17 Dec 2012

Immigration News

Victoria has received a modest, pre-Christmas boost to jobs with the opening in Melbourne of the new Australian headquarters for online accounting software provider Xero.

The opening of Xero’s new headquarters in the inner-eastern Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn is set to create more than 25 highly-skilled ICT jobs for Victoria to accommodate the company’s expansion in Victoria and around Australia.

The Victorian Technology Minister, Gordon Rich-Phillips, who attended the official opening of the company’s offices today, said the Victorian Coalition Government welcomed further growth by Xero in Victoria.

“The new office will accommodate Xero’s expansion in Victoria and Australia, following its successful listing on the ASX last month.

“Xero has tripled its revenue and customer numbers in Australia in the past 12 months, with more than 32,500 paying customers. The commitment to create more than 25 jobs in Victoria is testament to the state’s reputation as an ICT hub.”

Founded in Wellington, New Zealand, Xero provides a platform for online accounting and business services for small and medium-sized businesses, and the company has built an ecosystem of partners, with over 130 solutions now integrating directly with Xero.

The Minister said the Coalition Government was committed to investing in ICT to both attract new ICT expertise and encourage business growth.

“As part of our commitment, last year we released a $150 million suite of technology plans to support the development of Victoria’s technology capabilities and facilitate technology-enabled innovation across the economy.

“Since December 2010, the Coalition Government has helped to facilitate more than 2,200 jobs and more than $700 million in investment in the technology industry.”

Xero’s Managing Director in Australia, Chris Ridd said the new office would allow the company to help partners and independent software vendors with desk space, providing support for cloud start-ups and fostering growth in the industry.

“We’ve achieved such incredible growth this year that we wanted to invest in a new space for our growing team and partners, to help us increase our market share further in 2013.”

Ridd said today’s opening of Xero’s new Australian headquarters was another huge milestone for the company and topped off a very successful year for the company.
