Virgin Atlantic Urges UK Govt To Reduce Visa Fees For Indians

Virgin Atlantic, a British airline, has called the UK Govt to reduce the prices of the 10-year visa for Indian citizens. This particular announcement has come ahead of Modi’s visit (Indian PM) to United Kingdom, and he is expected to address the British parliament alongside British PM, David Cameron.

On 5th November, the spokespersons for Virgin Atlantic has said that the price of 10-year visa must be brought down to match the cost of 6-month visa, a change that has been recently made for Chinese nationals who visit UK.

Nick Parker, Head of India and Middle East for Virgin Atlantic has said that significant visa reform is crucial to unlocking the full potential of the vast, exciting business as well as cultural opportunities that exist between UK and India. If the UK is serious about further strengthening the economic and cultural relationship with India, this visa change should be delivered next week.

Parker said that the airline had been working with the UK govt on a varied number of proposals which would lower the cost as well as the complexity of visas for Indians visiting the nation.  The call from the airlines refers to those Indians who travel to the UK for both leisure and work.

Virgin airline welcomed the visa fee reduction recently made to China; it urged the UK govt to reciprocate the same to another Asian nation, India in the interest of strengthening ties with the subcontinent.

This particular call comes a week after research revealed India and UK are not as close they could be. The study conducted by the British Council has indicated that the UK is losing out on vital opportunities as ignorance of India among the young Britons threatens the relationship between the two nations.

Modi would be visiting UK on 12th November and meet Cameron. The Indian Prime Minister will also have lunch with the Queen on 13th November at Buckingham Palace before addressing a gathering of about 60,000 British Indians at Wembley Stadium.
