West Australia To Welcome More Migrant Workforce

The Barnett Government is planning to encourage international skilled workers from Asia, Africa and the Middle East countries to boost its economy. The major reason behind the initiative is due to large scale internal migration of West Australians to other States.

During the resource boom, approx 1000 people moved to the State per week, but since 2012, there has been a decline in population growth. The number of people moving to other parts of Australia has increased over the people coming to the state.

The interstate migration during the March quarter of 2012 reported an influx of 3395 people whereas the latest quarter report is quite opposite which reports a net outflow by 935 people.

Mike Nahan, WA Treasurer and Minister for Multicultural Affairs, is promoting immigration as a development tool and istrying to involve migrant workers in the state economy. Speaking on several occasions he supported migration and considered it as the major force behind population growth in West Australia.
