To visit Denmark for a short period, getting a Visa is must for people from certain countries.
A visa is intended to allow an international visitor to visit Denmark and/or other Schengen countries for a definite period. To stay in Denmark for a prolonged period, a residence permit is required.
A visa to enter Denmark is not necessary if you already have a certain type of residence or re-entry permit from another Schengen country. However, these residence permits are not valid to enter the Greenland or Faroe Islands.
If you have a residence card which is issued under the EU (European Union) regulations on free movement by an EU country that is also a Schengen country, you do not need a visa to enter Denmark.
However, if you hold an EU residence card which is issued by an EU country but not a Schengen country, you may enter Denmark without a visa on that condition that you either need to be accompanied by, or need to join, an EU citizen.
This applies to both residence cards issued as per the Directive 2004/38/EC and before this directive took effect. Your residence card will be issued as a residence sticker placed in your passport or in the form of a credit card sized plastic card.
A Visa entitles you to…
A visa usually gives you the right to stay in the whole Schengen area and gives you the right to spend, not more than 90 days in 6 months in the Schengen area.
A penalty period of 3-5 years is given to anyone if you remain in Denmark after the expiry of the visa or if you try to use your visa stay to attain long-term or permanent residency in Denmark. In the penalty period, you will not be able to get a visa to visit Denmark.
Unless the Immigration Service has granted explicit right, one cannot work in Denmark on a visa. However, you can carry out certain work-related activities without holding a work permit during visits of less than 3 months.
