Australia Immigration: 20% Increase Observed In Working Holiday Visa

30 Sep 2019

Working Holiday Visa

Immigration numbers published in the last week revealed a major increase in working backpackers in Australia, after governmental reforms to the Australian working holiday visa program and a global tourism campaign strives at enticing European abroad workers to regional areas.

Below the Working Holiday Visa program, 43,219 second-year visas were awarded in the previous financial year, which is 7000 higher when compared with prior year.

That’s 7000 more people picking crops, shearing sheep, milking cows, and encouraging tourism in Australian regional areas, Minister for Citizenship, Immigration, Multicultural Affairs, and Migrant Services, David Coleman, told.

Regional agricultural industries are now profiting from a 20% increase in the working holiday makers number that supports Australian regional areas.

The expanded number of individuals in Australia on the Working Holiday Visa program can be partly attached to the government’s $7.5 million campaign started by Tourism Australia beginning of this year, which aimed at bringing higher working holidaymakers from places such as Germany, United Kingdom, France, and Italy.

New Reforms by Australian Immigration

From January, holders of second-year visa can also appeal for a third year Working Holiday Visa if they carry out an extra six months defined work in regional areas through their second year.

We assume the third-year visa opportunity will promote even more additional travelers to spend further time working in Australian regional areas, Coleman said.

Minister for Tourism, Trade, and Investment Simon Birmingham announced working holiday makers inject approximately $3 billion into the economy every year, most of which is used in Australian regional areas.

Working holidaymakers usually stay longer, spend more extra money in Australia and travel further into Australian regional areas than most other foreign visitors, Birmingham told.

Talks are presently underway between the government of Australia and 13 nations to allow citizens to appeal for working holiday visas, which would add to the current 44 nations already with deals in place.

These nations are Andorra, Croatia, Brazil, India, Fiji, Latvia, Lithuania, Monaco, Mexico, Mongolia, Solomon Islands, Philippines, and Switzerland, a country which is made up of about 8.2% native speakers of Italian.

The immigration department of Australia emphasized that all workers in Australia should have the equal rights and protections at work, irrespective of citizenship or status of visa and that employers must pay the appropriate wages as fixed by law, and offer a safe workplace.
