Applications are now being allowed for the Agri-Food Immigration Pilot. This Immigration pilot is designed to address the labor requirements of Canadian companies in the mushroom, meat processing, and livestock-raising, and greenhouse production industries. Holders of temporary visas who are now in Canada working in these areas can apply for Canada PR below the new pilot.
Refugees, Immigration, and Citizenship Canada (I.R.C.C) will accept up to 2,750 principal candidates along with their family members yearly for the following 3 years below the pilot. Applications are being allowed from now till 14 May 2023, as per the I.R.C.C media release.
Canadian companies in the agri-food sector have been calling the Canadian government to support them recruit and maintain the workforce they require to operate. The pilot’s planned commence date was assumed to be at the close of March but was postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. It gives an opportunity for temporary immigrant workers (T.F.Ws) with agri-food work experience to obtain Canada PR.
The Agri-Food Immigration Pilot doesn't incorporate the Quebec province, which has its specific immigration system. However, Quebec companies who recruit non-seasonal temporary immigrant workers can profit from the 2-year Labour Market Impact (L.M.I.A) Assessment that is an element of the pilot, as long as the worker’s National Occupational (N.O.C) Classification code is suitable. Then they can apply for a PR selection from Quebec by the Quebec Experience Program (P.E.Q).
The professions and industries that are qualified below the pilot comprise:
Meat product manufacturing;
Greenhouse, floriculture production, and nursery, including mushroom production;
Animal production except aquaculture;
The agri-food industry and agriculture support 1 in 8 jobs over the nation. In 2019, agriculture exports knocked a record of $67 billion.
“Bringing and maintaining talented workers are necessary to help in improving our economy and enhance the living standards of all Canadians,” says Canadian immigration minister, Marco Mendicino. The Agri-Food Immigration Pilot will bring applicants for Canada PR who have worked in Canada, who have the ability to economically set in Canada, and who help in the labor requirements of farmers and also processors.
