Canadian Okanagan City Joins In The Rural Northern Immigration Pilot

Vernon is one of the eleven communities in Canada creating a pathway of Canada PR for skilled immigrant workers.

The Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot has so far worked out in Ontario’s Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie similarly in Altona/Rhineland, Manitoba. This program is coming soon but has not quite been started in Vernon which is the major city in the two B.C. communities that are taking part in the immigration pilot. The West Kootenay region of Castlegar, Trail, Nelson, and Rossland is the other. Claresholm, Alberta; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Brandon, Manitoba; and Subury, North Bay, and Timmins, Ontario, are the other communities that are participating in the immigration pilot.

Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot Supporting Smaller Communities in Canada

This Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot is a community-driven program intended to expand the economic immigration benefits to smaller communities in Canada.

To apply for Canada PR below the pilot there are 4 major steps, one of which is achieving the community-specific criteria, though, Vernon has yet to layout those. To engage in the program you need the plan to live in a specific community.

While this program is intended to help newcomers as well as to fill job openings, there are also settlement fund criteria.

Unless you are already working lawfully in Canada when you apply, you need to prove that you have sufficient money to support yourself and your family members while you want to settle in your community, the immigration pilot program states.

You need to prove that you have sufficient money to support any of your family members, even if they are not landing in Canada with you.

Other criteria, such as work experience and language skill are mandatory, as well as applicants need to obtain an employment offer before applying for Canada PR.

In Thunder Bay, this pilot program started accepting questions from community-based organizations that are interested in posting jobs 1 Nov 2019. The federal government grants Thunder Bay to make a maximum of 100 recommendations. Applications will start being accepted from 2 Jan 2020.
