For their work in jobs creation and poverty eradication, Prince Charles praised young Indian entrepreneurs as he hosted them at a special reception at his official residence.
During his interaction with the entrepreneurs supported by his charity network YBI (Youth Business International), he said that he is very proud of the work they are doing in India.
He added that all of them overcame huge obstacles in their lives to not only find work for themselves but also to create jobs for others.
Accompanying the Indian contingent is the founding trustee of the Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust, Lakshmi V. Venkatesan. She said that with the help and guidance of YBI, their trust works towards youth empowerment and poverty eradication. She added that it is a great program for India as it converts job seekers with good business ideas to job creators.
She accompanied her father, R. Venkataraman, the then President of India, in 1990 for a meeting with the Prince of Wales during a state visit to Britain at Buckingham Palace after which, she set up the trust.
She added that it started as a result of a conversation with the Prince Charles, making India the first ever country outside the UK to begin such a network. Then the Indian program went on to aid as a blueprint for projects in various other parts of the sub-continent, like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brazil, South Africa and other countries.
Focused on helping young budding entrepreneurs for years the Prince of Wales established the Trust in 1976, when he was in his twenties.
However it was in the aftermath of the 1981 riots in Toxteth and Brixton that the trust first started helping disadvantaged youth into self-employment in the UK. The Trust then, set up a 'Youth Business Initiative', now called its 'Enterprise Program'.
Since then, Prince Charles has established a number of other charities aimed at providing business support, training and mentoring to an over 395,000 people, and creating entrepreneurs.
As Prince Charles meets some of the thousands of entrepreneurs who accessed help and support to set up successful enterprises over the years, this week registers a series of events celebrating the success of his various charities.
