British Columbia is Canada's third-biggest province by population and size. It is a host to the dynamic city of Vancouver, also a lush, rugged interior by beautiful medium and small towns.
Recognizing the value of immigration to its growth of population and economic improvement, British Columbia has formed a comprehensive provincial nominee program, the British Columbia P.N.P., which develops into vital two streams: Entrepreneur Immigration and Skills Immigration B.C./Express Entry B.C.
The Stream Skills Immigration grants a pathway to Canada PR for both skilled and semi-skilled workers in-demand professions of B.C. and foreign graduates of qualified post-secondary programs and colleges in Canada.
The Stream Skills Immigration has 5 categories: Skilled Worker, International Graduate, Healthcare Professional, International Post-Graduate, and Semi-Skilled and Entry Level Worker.
The initial four categories– Skilled Worker, International Graduate, Healthcare Professional, Global Post-Graduate – are also connected to the Canadian Express Entry system and enable the B.C. P.N.P to choose skilled worker applicants with a profile in the Express Entry.
In 2018, British Columbia immigration nominated 6,500 applicants for Canadian PR, nearly 50 percent of whom came by categories of Express Entry B.C.
In 2016 the province of British Columbia launched the Skills Immigration Registration System (S.I.R.S), a points-based system that lists qualified candidates as per the score according to the factors such as educational qualification, work experience, skill in English and the job offer type they have received.
Enrolling an online S.I.R.S profile is needed for all categories of Skills Immigration or Express Entry B.C. excluding International Post-Graduate and Healthcare Professional.
Another innovation by the B.C. P.N.P was the making of its Tech Pilot in the year 2017. The B.C. Tech Pilot aims Skills Immigration or Express Entry B.C. applicants with a suitable employment offer in 29 approved tech professions. Recently prolonged until June 2020, the tech pilot promotes the hiring of skilled international workers by tech firms in the province of B.C. that are suffering labor shortages and drops the usual job offer demand from a permanent job to a one-year employment offer that has minimum 120 days outlasting at the application time.
There are 3 categories in the British Columbia PNP’s pathway of the Entrepreneur Immigration – the Regional Pilot; Base Category; and the Category Strategic Pilots.
The Regional Pilot is for two years, and it is the B.C. P.N.P’s recent innovation and was launched in 2018 to encourage economic growth in the province’s big urban areas outside.
Applicants who are invited to appeal and whose applications are accepted by the B.C. P.N.P can then appeal for a two years work permit from the federal government of Canada.
Entrepreneurs who go on to build their business and who attend the B.C. P.N.P’s business performance standards can appeal for a nomination from the province for Canada PR.
